Colby Bond Biography

clarinetist, educator, entrepreneur

Hailed as “a supernatural force” (Millbrook Independent), New York-based clarinetist Colby Bond maintains an active performing career regularly playing with orchestras all over the Northeast. Formerly holding positions in the Fort Collins Symphony and The Orchestra Now, Bond has appeared as guest principal clarinet with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, and Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also performed regularly with the American Ballet Theatre, Glimmerglass Festival, Albany Symphony Orchestra, Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others playing clarinet, Eb clarinet, and bass clarinet. He has attended the Bard, Bowdoin, Eastern, and Aspen Music Festivals and holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Bard College, and the University of Colorado Boulder.

Outside of the concert hall, Bond is deeply committed to presenting classical music to those who may not otherwise hear it, and has performed chamber music extensively in unique venues ranging from backyards to breweries and more. One such project included curating a unique experience pairing drinks and chamber music, in which he featured live classical music performance and discussion of how different pieces of music pair well with varied beer and cocktails. Regarded as a soloist, he has been a prizewinner in solo competitions such as the Aurora Symphony Young Artists Competition and CU Boulder Honors Competition, of which he won first prize in the undergraduate division. He made his concerto debut performing the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the CU Symphony Orchestra and has also performed the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra several times in both California and Switzerland. Bond also maintains a private teaching studio of in-person and virtual clarinet students. His principal teachers include Daniel Silver and Carey Bell.

When not playing the clarinet, one might find Bond attempting to brew the perfect cup of coffee, riding his bike, or brainstorming over his next idea.
